Welcome to 2nd grade! We are looking forward to an exciting year!!
Math skills we will be working on this year include:
- *fluently add and subtract to 20 using mental strategies – knowing all addition facts to 20 by memory
- *solve multi-step word problems involving addition and subtraction to 100
- *understand place value within 1,000 *use place value to add and subtract within 100
Reading skills for the year:
- *Wonders vocabulary words – we will learn approximately 8 new words a week
- *Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text – be able to discuss using details from the text
- *Compare and contrast 2 texts using details from each text *Retell stories and identify main idea
- *Describe how characters in a story respond to main events and challenges
